Policy and Constituency Development
The Policy and Constituency Development function aims to integrate environment and sustainability concerns within the macro policy framework in Pakistan. Towards this end, it coordinates, supports and manages work within several strategic components as briefly described below:
Policy: Focuses on development of new policies (biodiversity, energy, etc.); inputs to existing and pipeline policies (e.g. water, forestry, etc.); participation in global and regional policy level initiatives and events (such as the World Summit on Sustainable Development); setting up of an Asian network on policy; and better understanding and implementation of MEAs (multi-lateral environmental agreements).
Advocacy: Aims at promoting the cause of environmental conservation and sustainable development through effective advocacy backed with sound scientific evidence. Provides support to partners, members and staff in identifying and advocating for policy level issues of local, national and regional significance.
Constituency Development: Engages and strengthens the IUCNP constituency in Pakistan (i.e. IUCN members, members of IUCN Commissions and key partners) in furthering the environmental agenda through joint programming, regular meetings of IUCN members and facilitation of their participation in national and global events.
Donor Liaison and Resource Mobilization: Maintains productive relationships between IUCNP and strategic donors through regular meetings of the IUCN Donor Coordination Group and the Environment Donor Coordination Group, besides organizing periodic bilateral meetings with main donors of IUCNP. Identifies new funding sources and facilitates “marketing” of proposals to relevant donors.
Knowledge Management: Supports synthesis of learning within the conservation strategies as part of an organizational move towards a “learning, remembering and reflecting” culture.
